A workgroup is being established to review and make recommendations about potential changes to MAPE’s current governance and organizational structures. MAPE’s Board of Directors approved the formation of this workgroup considering the expected loss of “fair share” fees, an increasingly anti-union environment on the state and national levels, and changing demographics.
MAPE's statewide president will appoint the nine-person workgroup. Members interested in serving should email Beth Paris at email@example.com by 4:30 p.m. Monday, July 24. For more information on the workgroup, see below. Our strategic plan is here: MAPE's 2017-19 Strategic Plan.
Here’s the process established for this review:
MAPE’s statewide president will appoint a nine-person workgroup to review and make actionable recommendations in the following areas:
- Number and location of locals or regions.
- Local structures – geographic or agency based.
- Delegate Assembly – its role and frequency.
- Our steward system.
- Board structure, size and meeting schedules.
- Staff department structure.
- Union affiliation.
- Other related issues as necessary.
Workgroup shall include two Executive Committee members, three Board members, three local leaders and three MAPE staff members (with at least one representing OPEIU Local 12).
At least three of the workgroup members must be from “Greater Minnesota.”
Workgroup will adhere to the decision-making standards outlined in this plan. The group will engage local leaders, Board members, committee chairs, staff and other identified stakeholders before making any recommendations.
Workgroup will present its preliminary recommendations to the Board no later than Oct. 15.
Final recommendations will be presented to a special Delegate Assembly in late 2017 or early 2018.
