It’s official. MAPE has 10,000 members for the first time ever!!
How did MAPE reach this important milestone? All of this can be attributed to our use of one-on-one relational organizing in pilot locals, organizing training, member-leader recruitment, membership drives, issue campaigns, listening sessions and first 30-day initiatives.
Eight locals led the way with double-digit increases in the number of members over the last four years. Local 1703 had the largest increase of members with 20.5 percent and Local 602 was a close runner-up with a 19.1 percent jump. Local 301, a pilot local, had the third-highest increase with 16.3 percent. Overall, the number of locals with a 70 percent membership rate or better has doubled from 8 to 16 since 2014.
Five more locals had increases of more than 10 percent over the same period. They are:
- Local 802, 13.2 percent.
- Local 801, 13.1 percent.
- Local 1304, 12.7 percent, pilot local.
- Local 401, 10.9 percent, pilot local.
- Local 601, 10.2 percent, pilot local.
Despite the difficulties organizing in Greater Minnesota due to the large number of work sites, three locals have made significant strides in increasing their membership. Local 1703 led the way again, with a 20.5 percent increase. Local 1701 was second, 9.5 percent, and Local 2001, which was a pilot, had a 9.4 percent increase.
