Redistricting maps released
The highly anticipated redistricting maps were released Tuesday afternoon.
Team MAPE will be working to defeat a number of GOP legislators in 2012 who do not support state employees. The districts many Republican anti labor legislators will be running are now more DFL leaning then they were before.
The new districts will make reelection more difficult for incumbents such as Representative Doug Wardlow, Representative Diane Anderson and Senator Ted Lillie. Wardlow, Anderson and Lillie earned a 0 percent vote scores on MAPE issues during the 2011 session.
In the Minnesota Senate there are now eight open seats. There are two Senate districts where DFL incumbents are paired with each other and four districts where incumbent senators are paired up. There are two districts where a Democrat and a Republican incumbent senator have been matched up.
In the Minnesota House there are 16 open seats with no incumbent representative. In six districts DFL candidates have been put in the same district and in six districts GOP Representatives have been put in the same district. In three House districts GOP and DFL incumbent Representatives have been paired together.
The congressional district maps look largely like they did before. The Greater Minnesota Districts (1st, 7th and 8th CD) are very similar to before and the metro districts have been more altered. The biggest change in the congressional district maps took place in the current fourth congressional district, which has been extended eastward to include more of Woodbury.
