MAPE local officers attend training, get their questions answered

Officer and Emerging Leader Training WorkshopMAPE local officers and leaders had an opportunity to receive training for their specific roles and get their questions answered during the Officer and Emerging Leader Training Workshop Friday, Aug. 27, at the Sheraton in Bloomington.

Statewide President Chet Jorgenson led the event, giving attendees a brief history of MAPE. The information presented by Jorgenson covered a wide range of material and resources that officers can access to do their work at the local level. Jorgenson also sketched out a snapshot of the organizational structure of MAPE.

MAPE member Russell Raczkowski engaged attendees with a presentation on organizing locals. Raczkowski’s presentation was titled, “A local is where MAPE builds capacity.” Raczkowski defined capacity as: strength, numbers, diversity, connections/partnership, skill, flexibility, resilience and energy. A vibrant question-and-answer session followed.

The training then branched out to more specialized information for attendees. MAPE’s Statewide Officers addressed topics from their particular office: President Jorgenson, First Vice President Jill Hiatt, Second Vice President Jay Smith, Secretary Mary Baker and Treasurer Jamie Fitzpatrick. The group then held breakout sessions by offices for questions and answers.
