Young Union Women: Labor Movement at “Tipping Point”

As MAPE's organizer and a young-ish woman, several MAPE leaders have asked me at one time or another about getting young members more engaged in the union.  I have my own ideas, but I also like to check out what other unions and organizations are doing to tackle this issue.

One blog I really enjoy is Young Workers Movement, which posts about young people and union activism. I cam across a great post the other day about bringing more young women into union leadership. A lot of the recommendations parallel MAPE's own goals.

Here's the link: http://youngworkersmovement.com/2010/07/16/854/. I'd love to hear other people's reactions to the post.

In solidarity,

A very interesting bullet

A very interesting bullet point that's stated in that blog refers to engaging younger workers.

How do members engage younger workers on the job? How do younger workers engage the established employees? With generations of employees, baby-boomers to millenials, that's a meaty topic that all organizations are talking about.

Check out this study that outlines generational differences.
