We are seeking a backup MAPE presenter at the DHS New Employee Orientation. Training will be provided. If you are interested, contact Royce Tyre.

• M/P (Local officers) Local 2101 Standing Rules
o M/S/F (Danielle Bean) To postpone voting on the Standing Rules until the January 2011 business meeting to allow more time for members to review Robert’s Rules of Order.
• Mentoring – Jill Hiatt wrote a document in regards to Mentoring and all types of knowledge transferring opportunities amongst employees and Union members. Please contact Jill Hiatt regarding mentoring opportunities.

• Business Agent, Sheila Pokorny, spoke about the Governor elect and the new legislature. All are encouraged to contact your legislators, speak with them about who you are and what you do and how you hope to have them work with and for you. The steward training was cancelled due to low enrollment numbers. Our premiums are not going up 6.7%. Also, there is an opening on the Constitution and Rules Committee.

Announcements

• Change in retirement benefit – there is no longer a $500 additional death benefit
• Post-Retirement Health Care Benefit. Employees who retire on or after January 1, 2008, shall be entitled to a contribution of two hundred fifty dollars ($250) to the Minnesota State Retirement System’s (MSRS) Health Care Savings Plan, if at the time of retirement the employee is entitled to an annuity under a State retirement program. An employee who becomes totally and permanently disabled on or after January 1, 2008, who receives a State disability benefit, and is eligible for a deferred annuity under a State retirement program is also eligible for the two hundred fifty dollar ($250) contribution to the MSRS Health Care Savings Plan. Employees are eligible for this benefit only once.
• MAPE Education Opportunities – Sponsored by the Ralph Cornelia Memorial Scholarship 2010. Speaker Kurt Micka will offer the following 2 remaining topics aimed at MAPE members over lunch hour for free

New Business
• Elect your boss campaign. Statewide President Chet Jorgenson spoke for about 10 minutes on the importance of stopping false ideas the public has regarding state employees and state employment and talking to family and friends about the importance of what state workers need and getting out to vote.
• Position of Secretary has been filled- Molly (Moreno) Short is the new Secretary
• Report on Delegate Assembly. Michelle Doheny spoke for a few minutes on the events at the Delegate Assembly and some of the 54 resolutions’ outcomes.
• State Employee Appreciation Day. Jan Maxson told us that October 21st from 11-1 in the Andersen building lobby will be the employee appreciation celebration. There will be information, such as voter registration, to receive there.

New Business
• Election for position of Secretary – Jude Rikala is our new Secretary
• Request for donation for DHS/Fire Dept./ Police Dept. Open House – Bill Keppers spoke about the event and volunteered to assist at the MAPE table there. MSP to donate $100 to event- 1/3 of cost of event. All members are invited to attend 11-1 on September 24th at fire department building.
• Layoff MAPE Contract Article 17 – Sheila Pokorny discussed process outlined in MAPE handbook in Chapter 17. Q & A period and discussed how the early retirement process works.
