Minutes of MAPE’s DOLI Meet and Confer Meeting
June 20, 2008

Safety Issues:

None to report

Stairway by Employee Entrance:

MAPE questioned the type of door that was installed for the employee entrance stairwell because it did not have a window. Management stated that this was reviewed prior to installation and was told that it must be a fire door with no window. MAPE informed management of the Code in which allows a window to be utilized in fire doors. MAPE further questioned if that was the case then why do the fire doors in the same stairwell for the second, third, and fourth floors all have windows. Management agreed to check into this further and also pointed out that the narrowness of the hallway is only temporary. When MAPE asked how long was temporary, management could not provide a specific timeframe.

MAPE pointed out to management that the employee entrance stairwell is dusty and in need of wall cleaning. Management indicated that the walls were recently painted but agreed to look into this matter further.

MAPE asked that management inform the cleaning staff that entry into the restrooms should not be done without knocking. Management agreed to do this.

View Results of Air Quality Testing Previously Done in Building:

Since the air quality of this building has been and continues to be an on-going issue among employees, MAPE requested that they be provided with a copy of the air quality testing that had been completed. Management stated that the landlords had the air quality tested and they were not provided with a copy of the results. Management further stated that OSHA Consultation performed air quality testing several years ago. MAPE stated that considerable remodeling with additional employees moving into the building makes that testing no longer valid.  Management agreed to obtain of a copy of the test done by the landlord and provide MAPE’s chair with a copy by July 20, 2008.

Minnesota Room Available for Chapter Meetings:

Effective August, 2008, MAPE will again start having chapter meetings within the Labor and Industry Building.  MAPE asks for management’s assistance to assure that room availability is checked when scheduling meetings so we do not get “bumped” from the Minnesota Room when we have it reserved.  Management also agreed to obtain a 5-10 minute leeway for MAPE’s Chapter meeting scheduled on August 12.  The Electrical Contractors’ Board is meeting in the Minnesota Room all day, with a break between 11:30 am-1 pm to accommodate MAPE’s Chapter meeting.  Management indicated that information would be forwarded indicating MAPE’s need for 5-10 minutes after 1pm to clean the room.  MAPE agreed also to use only one-half of the room if the Electrical Contractors’ Board needs to keep any equipment or belongings at the tables usually used by Board and Panel members.

Convention Parking – Availability of Lot to Employees:

MAPE employees continue to be concerned that there will not be enough parking spots to accommodate them during the convention timeframe. Management stated the police department will be provide with 75 parking spots from the Jupiter lot and stated that with vacations, sick leave, etc. they do not expect any problems. MAPE asked if reimbursement of bus passes was possible during this timeframe. Management stated that bus reimbursement is available for tax purposes.

Parking Lot Clean-up After Winter Months:

MAPE pointed out that the parking lot has yet to be cleaned after the winter months. There continues to be large amounts of sand and salt throughout the parking lot. Additionally, there are many surface flaws circled in red throughout the parking lot, possibly indicating that repairs may be needed. Management agreed that they will discuss this matter with the landlord.

Additionally, there appears to be a dead pine tree on the outer-side of the Minnesota Room that should be removed. Management agreed to discuss this with the landlord.

Pandemic Update:

Management stated that the procedures are still being worked on and had nothing new to report at this time.

The next Meet and Confer meeting is scheduled for September 11, 2008 at 2:30.
