Go to region and local officers

Sept. 11, 2008
Officers Present: Dean Gunderson, Judy Gibson, Ted Sitz, Michelle Fure,
Carol Walsh, and Gary Johnson (chief steward).
Treasurer’s Report:
BUDGET (as of 7/31/08):
• Total income from dues was $829.00
• Account balance was $13,791
• Checking account balance is $1286.81
• August meeting meal expense (Green Mill) was $308.61
• $125.00 donation to Judy Gibson for death in the family
DONATIONS:
In 2007, Local 501 gave about $5,400 in donations.
• $1,000 Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless
• $500 American Red Cross for families affected by southern MN
floods
• $500 AFSCME/University of Minnesota striking clerical
employees
• $500 UNITE Here (new contractor for State Capitol locked
employees out)
• $2,000 Hunger Solutions
• $500 American Cancer Society
2008 TOTAL: $1,500, community contributions and $1,000 labor contributions
A Local 501 member suggested using a more defined process for receiving requests for charitable donations – similar to a process where groups submit proposals for donations. These items would still come before the membership for full approval.
Director’s Report:
Budget prepared for consideration by the Delegate Assembly. There was a discussion at the board meeting regarding the entertainment at the Delegate Assembly. A motion to allow the comedian (who is Matt Kramer’s wife, a piece of information unknown to the group choosing the entertainment) to withdraw from the event did not prevail. Two donations were also approved for Coalition Alliance for a Better Minnesota and the Minnesota Fair Trade Coalition.
Dean Gunderson also noted that full members who don’t have their MAPE Access cards can contact him.
Delegate Assembly Discussion:
The resolutions for consideration by the Delegate Assembly were reviewed with the group, including the proposal to pay off the mortgage for the MAPE Central offices. A motion was made and
seconded to support the May Day resolution, which honors the sacrifice of working men and women and highlights the rich history of organized labor in the United States. The motion carried.
Other Business:
Members raised the issue of compensation for the hours lost when employees were sent home during the Republican National Convention. Business Agent Joe McMahon said they would work with management to assure staff receive full pay – including filing grievances and advancing to arbitration if necessary.
MAPE Day on the Hill will be March 4, 2009.
A moment of silence was observed in honor of those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001 and on the I-35W bridge collapse on Aug. 1, 2007.
Respectfully Submitted,
Michelle Fure
Local 501 Secretary
