Longtime MAPE member Deb Schadegg named to legislative corrections task force
Deb Schadegg, a former statewide president and current Board member of MAPE, was appointed to a corrections strategic management and operations advisory task force established by the state Legislature during the 2009 legislative session. Schadegg received her appointment from Senate Majority Leader Larry Pogemiller.
The corrections task force was established to provide the governor and Legislature with strategies and ideas on corrections efficiencies and ways to reduce the inmate per diem for the Department of Corrections. The three areas the task force has been requested to assess and come up with recommendations, including legislative recommendations, are: (1) delivery of state corrections services; (2) construction, maintenance and operation of state prisons; and (3) coordination between state and local corrections agencies. The task force will be made up of the commissioner of the Department of Corrections or her designee, a sheriff, appointees from postsecondary institutions, appointees from the private sector, a community corrections act department director and five additional political appointees.
Schadegg has worked for the Department of Corrections for 31 years. She began her career as a corrections officer at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Stillwater. During her career, she has worked as a corrections officer and sergeant, a corrections security caseworker, a discipline hearings officer and a hearings and release officer senior. Schadegg has held many positions within MAPE, including statewide president during the 2001 strike. She was the chair of MAPE’s Budget Task Force that worked diligently last year to provide budget saving ideas to the 2009 Legislature.
